Casa San Ysidro and
Casa San Ysidro: The Gutierrez/Minge House Travel back in time at Casa San Ysidro. It's a home where the only heat came from a fireplace, the only air conditioning came through an open window, and oil lamps, candles and starlight illuminated the evening hours of 19th century New Mexico. This partially reconstructed 19th century home located in the Village of Corrales is an important link to the history of New Mexico. Inside the adobe walls you will find Spanish Colonial furniture, authentic hand-woven floor coverings, hand forged iron tools and an authentic loom made in the late 1700's. The Albuquerque Museum acquired Casa San Ysidro from the long-time Corrales residents Ward Alan and Shirley Jolly Minge. The couple started their collection fifty years ago, accumulating the scarce Hispanic New Mexico artifacts that would have otherwise been lost to time. The property originally belonged to the descendants of don Felipe Gutiérrez, recipient of the Bernalillo Township Land Grant in 1704. The Albuquerque Museum opened Casa San Ysidro to the public in October of 1998. The historic house is named for the patron saint of farming, San Ysidro Labrador.

10th Annual Mercado Antiguo (Old Market) It seems hard to believe, but this year marks 10 years that the Corrales Historical Society has been sponsoring the “Mercado Antiguo” as its part in the Corrales Harvest Festival. The first year some of the historical society docents got together and dreamed of having a “mini” Corrales Spanish Market, inspired by the famous Santa Fe Spanish Market held each July. It has grown and been successful, educational, and fun for ten years!! The bond between the artists and the Corrales Historical Society has become very special and we look forward to the years to come as well. The Old San Ysidro Church, listed on both the state and national register of historic places, is s classic example of New Mexico Hispanic village religious architecture from the 18th & 19th centuries. As a previous Corrales mayor wrote “The Old Church is the single point of community pride that strikes a responsive chord in the hearts of all … it provides the symbol of a common heritage that we keep, cherish, and hold in sacred trust for our own posterity.” Hispanic artists, intent on passing down 400 year old artistic traditions to a new generation, will be at the Old San Ysidro Church during the Corrales Harvest Festival. Visitors will be able to watch them work, and, of course items will be offered for sale. Most of the artists participate in the well known Spanish Market in Santa Fe each July. The art forms that will be represented are retablos and bultos (arts of the santeros or saint makers, which are carved wooden statues of the saints and pictures of saints on wooden boards), weaving, straw applique, colcha embroidery, tinwork, furniture, carved wooden crosses, and silver filigree.
